Creative Beach Portraits at Crandon Park, Key Biscayne
There's something about the light at Crandon Park in the late afternoon that makes it a wonderful setting for portrait photography. The palm trees, open beach, and warm sunlight offer plenty of opportunities to experiment with different compositions and moods.
For this creative portrait session with Victoria, we headed to Crandon Park in Key Biscayne just before sunset, making the most of the beautiful natural light and the relaxed atmosphere of the beach.
With a few outfit changes, a skateboard, and a ukulele, we created a collection of portraits that combined casual beach photography with a more editorial, fashion-inspired style.

Playing With Natural Light
One of my favorite things about photographing at the beach is how much the light changes throughout a session.
For Victoria's portraits, we experimented with backlighting, positioning her between the camera and the low afternoon sun. This created a beautiful glow around her hair and gave some of the photographs a soft, almost dreamy quality.
The skateboard added a playful element to the session, allowing us to create portraits that felt a little different from traditional beach photography.
A Different Look, Same Location
A change of outfit can completely transform the feeling of a portrait session without having to travel to another location.
For the next part of our shoot, Victoria changed into a relaxed, beach-inspired outfit, which worked beautifully with the white sand and palm trees.
We incorporated a ukulele into a few of the compositions, adding another creative element to the photographs.

The final portraits had a softer, more natural feel. With the open beach and palm trees in the background, we were able to capture a completely different look while staying in the same beautiful setting.

Planning a Creative Beach Portrait Session in Miami
Crandon Park is a lovely location for anyone looking for beach portraits with a little more variety. Beyond the shoreline, the park's palm trees and open spaces provide different backgrounds that can complement everything from casual portraits to more creative, fashion-inspired photography.
I especially enjoy working with the natural light in the late afternoon, when the sun is lower and we can experiment with both softly illuminated portraits and more dramatic backlighting.
For a session like this, bringing a few outfit options or a meaningful personal item can help us create photographs that reflect your individual style.
Whether you're interested in relaxed beach portraits or something with a more editorial feel, we can plan a session around the look you'd like to achieve.
