Vizcaya Museum and Gardens has been one of Miami’s most recognizable photography locations for years, and looking back at this engagement session reminded me why.

I photographed this couple here about a year before they became husband and wife. We spent the session exploring the gardens and using the architecture, greenery, and little tucked-away spaces throughout the property as backdrops for their portraits.

Why Vizcaya works so well for engagement photos

One of the things I love about photographing couples at Vizcaya is how much variety you can create without traveling between locations. The gardens have formal architectural elements, lush greenery, stone details, open spaces, and quieter corners that work beautifully for more intimate photographs.

You can see some of that variety in this session. We created wider portraits that show the garden around them, but also focused on small details, including their hands and the engagement ring. Those close photographs often become some of my favorites because they help tell the story without needing a big pose or elaborate setup.

Vizcaya also has such a distinctive atmosphere that the location becomes part of the photographs rather than simply a background. The result can feel romantic and polished while still leaving plenty of room for natural interaction between the couple.

If you are considering engagement photos at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, it is a location worth exploring, particularly if you love gardens, historic architecture, and portraits with a classic Miami feel.
